VLC (VideoLan) Updates to Version 1.1.0

VLC Media player (initially VideoLAN Client) is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

Playing back .MP4 H.264 encoded movies:

Apple Updates iTunes to Version 9.2

The update adds quite a few performance enhancements but most notably the support for Apple's new iPhone 4 and allows syncing books to iPhones and iPods with the yet to come iBooks application.

Some of the new features are:

ATI Updates Catalyst Drivers to Version 10.6

AMD has posted a new set of Catalyst graphics drivers that have quite a few performance enhancements as well as some new video filtering options.  Catalyst 10.6 also brings OpenGL 4.0 support on 5000-series Radeon cards.

The new filtering options include video de-blocking support, which reduces blocking artifacts seen in low bit-rate video during playback, and Mosquito noise reduction support to help prevent the shimmering noise often found around the edges of sharp outlines in highly compressed progressive video.

DVDRemaster is an utility for Mac OS X to recompress large (unprotected/unencrypted) DVDs so that they fit on standard DVD5. DVDRemaster can work in two modes.

It can either preserve all tracks (including menus, multiangle, commentaries, other languages, ...) or work in "Movie Only" mode where everything but the main feature is discarded, thus leaving more space for the main feature and a better quality of image.

Advanced users will appreciate the Pro version, which lets you choose exactly which video and audio tracks you want to copy.
